We just adopted Scotty from LCHS and foster mom Martha Walton. He is full of joy and compatible with our other pups because of the care Mrs. Walton gave him as he waited for his adoption. She gave us perfect advice, directions, guidance, and suggestions to make his transition smooth and perfect. We couldn’t be happier. And many thanks for Lisa Glunt who happily completed the paperwork on a day when the LCHS is usually closed.
Thank you Martha for fostering Milo! He’s the sweetest miniature poodle I’ve ever met. He’s very happy and healthy, and loves going swimming with me. The adoption process was very easy and I’m so glad Milo got to come home with me. I’ve had him for over a month now and he’s just perfect, and he loves other dogs.
I am very thankful for the Leon County Humane Society (LCHS).
We were able to adopt a dog that has already become part of our family. We are especially thankful for Martha. She is so kind and helpful. She answered all of our questions and was always willing to help. Even now after the adoption she is still available to assist us as we bond with our new family member. LCHS is very fortunate to have a dedicated person like Martha. She is a blessing.
I had an awesome experience with meeting a puppy who was being fostered by Martha. She's very concerned about the well-being of her dogs which as a dog lover myself, I really appreciated. The dog she was fostering was not the right fit, but she went above and beyond to point me in the direction of finding a dog that will be. Overall it was a great experience!
Update: there is another review of how awful Martha is and you say the exact same thing, that it’s out of the norm. I have no intentions of “smearing” an organization claiming to help animals find homes but it’s sad when one person ruins it. I hope she gets an investigation.
Martha one of the “foster parents” is a crazy old dog hoarder. She has way too many dogs in her home!! Admits to kicking a dog, is extremely rough and complains about bite marks from tiny dogs which are just scratches.
I do see I’m not the only complaint here about Martha as well.
She is also very inappropriate. When I filled out my address inquiring a dog from her she did her research- which is fine, great please make sure these dogs are going to a good home however it’s another thing when the mentioning of things inside my home, and the price sale of my house that make me VERY uncomfortable. I was also told having no fence will make my dog “miserable” and no dog should ever be without a fence. HOWEVER she looked up the sale of my house which is over 2 years ago! It didn’t have a fence but it does now. Martha needs to ask questions rather than jump to a conclusion and give her input. I totally disagree if a dog gets enough exercise they don’t need a fence, but again I do have a fence on an large amount of property…Any dogs in her care are not leash trained because she doesn’t bother walking them which is openly admits. All of the dogs under her care of scared and skittish. She wants to believe she is the only one who’s able to take care of the dogs and that her opinion is the best opinion. She criticized my vet but gave no reason what’s-so-ever. Everything you say to her this women will go against. I will never want to deal with the humane society because of this women! She needs to be investigated immediately. I know she’s been with the humane society for a long time (of course she told me that) along with telling me the humane society backs off of her because of how long she has been with them, she waits as long as possible for neutering and spaying because “they let me do what I want” but that doesn’t mean her home shouldn’t be investigated.
Thank you so much for Max & Jake! They are both such wonderful dogs; we feel so lucky. Melanie and Christy were such caring foster parents and helped everything go so smoothly!
Best Humane Society ever! I love all of their fun events, the staff, and the board members. They treat their animals as if they were they very own pets, with love and kindness. This is a wonderful place to volunteer and a fantastic place to find your next best animal friend!
They are humane n kind n we so exceedingly kind to the dogs and cats. We adopted our cat as kittens from the humane society. The drug went into the drainage stitch at FSU to rescue my kitten. His name is Draco meowfoy. That was 4 years ago …
Recently adopted a cat. Lovely staff and great facilties! These folks really care. Kayla was fantastic in assisting us! Thank you for all you do!
Wonderful place to adopt dogs and cats! The animals are well cared for and the volunteers and staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
